Hurricane Sandy & Halloween

I hope that everyone on the East coast is staying safe from Hurricane Sandy. We are fortunate enough to live on the western side of New Jersey and in just the right area that we didn't get hit too hard. The most damage we received near me were some downed trees and wires. There was minimal flooding. We only lost power for about a minute during the entire storm. I have family and friends who received much worse than this - my aunt who lives closer to shore lost power for nearly 36 hours. My godmother and her family still have no power and it's been nearly 48 hours. Others had trees fall on their homes and/or cars. We still aren't sure of the condition of my uncle's beach house and we can't even get onto the island for the next 9 days or so. The beaches were destroyed. A lot of the boardwalks are gone. The sand dunes no longer exist in many places. A new inlet was carved into Long Beach Island, and I'm sure other places as well. It's going to be a rough few weeks and clean up and rebuilding will take forever.

A lot of people seem to be angry that others are concerned on how this week affect Halloween (today). I suppose those people don't have children who have been looking forward to this day for weeks, possibly months. M has been talking about Halloween since July. Luckily, our town and the ones surrounding have mostly rescheduled with one town even staying with today. What does that mean for us? Even more trick or treating. After being stuck inside for days, it will be a relief to take M out and do something that she'll enjoy.

I made the wings out of 2 layers of cardboard, some felt and elastic. The skirt is made from a crochet elastic headband and 3 layers of pink & purple tulle.

On Saturday, we went to a few trunk or treat events, but they were overcrowded with people afraid Halloween would be canceled, so they ran out of candy very quickly. Sunday was spent making sure we had everything ready just in case. We spent the entire day Monday inside and half of yesterday, as well. Today we will be going over to Deptford and the Deptford Mall to trick or treat there this afternoon. They are the only ones near us still trick or treating today. We may go over to Bellmawr tomorrow, I'm still undecided on that one. Friday we'll spend in our own town and Saturday we're going to go over to Collingswood & Haddon Township. I have a feeling we're going to have a lot of candy.
