NJ isn't a part of the US? Since when?

I was filing my state taxes today and when it came time to choose whether I wanted my refund direct deposited or mailed to me, I obviously picked direct deposit. If you can get direct deposit, it's WAY faster than having your check mailed and then you don't have to worry about driving to the bank, etc.

So I get to the part where you enter your account and routing numbers on for it to tell me that it won't accept my bank, being that it's outside of the US. My account is held in NJ with Bank of America. Since when is NJ outside the US? Of course, BOA has no idea why it's telling me that. Now I have to wait longer for the paper check. Absolutely ridiculous.
